Hidden Food Gems of Honolulu

We love our food but we dislike the long lines and over hype of some popular places. So we went off the beaten path and tried some other spots that were equally if not more delicious!

Debu Hawaii

This place sells giant delicious yubuchobap! @debuhawaii is a unique concept restaurant serving a variety of these yubus with a take on a classic Japanese dish with a Korean twist. Choose how many of any of their offerings and have it boxed up and ready to eat on the go. Perfect for grabbing on the way to your next stop on Oahu!

Bogart’s Cafe

@bogartscafe is a locals favorite in Honolulu with the sweetest staff and a large menu full of deliciously made Hawaiian favorites. We enjoyed everything we tried on their lovely patio. Online and to go ordering available. It does get crowded so go early or be prepared- it’s worth it!

Alo Cafe

@alocafe_hawaii is all the Hawaiian feels. We visited their Waikiki location which is a cute little store tucked into the side of Kuhio Ave. They are a plant based cafe serving only the freshest and high quality ingredients with most of the ingredients sourced locally from the Hawaiian islands. Delicious smoothies, açaí bowls, and baked goods. Also serves Hawaiian grown coffee!

Kamitoku Japanese Hotpot

@kamitoku_japanese_hotpot just opened earlier this year and is truly a hidden gem located in a strip mall not far from Waikiki. They are the sister restaurant to @kamitoku_ramen.hawaii serving amazing Japanese style hot pot with high quality meats imported from Japan. They have a variety of soup based to choose from including their original Lite shoyu beef broth they have been making since 1949 in the traditional Japanese style. Their servers were so sweet and polite we really felt like we were eating in Japan!

Nalu Health Bar

Save this for your next trip to Oahu, Hawaii! The perfect way to start the day in Hawaii is with @naluhealthbar has the perfect menu of fresh smoothies and juices, açaí bowls, sandwiches and wraps, salads, and local grown coffee. Everything seriously tasted so delicious with simple fresh ingredients. They have four Hawai’i locations: Kailua, South Shore Market, Haleiwa, and Waikiki.

Margotto

Step into a truffle centric experience you won’t forget on your next visit to Honolulu. @margotto.hawaii first opened in Tokyo and has been in Hawaii as the only importer of truffles. They have a focus on French Japanese cuisine with both a tasting menu and a la carte menu to choose from. The service is amazing and offer perfect wine pairings to each entree. Highly recommend!

Penny’s Waikiki Malasadas

@pennyswaikikimalasadas is located at the @royalhwnctr in the heart of Waikiki. Fresh traditional or filled malasadas with a variety of filling flavors to choose from. We also enjoyed their beignets with fresh strawberries! Conveniently located and delicious!

Luaus

Aloha Kai Luau

Getting the full Hawaiian experience with a luau! @alohakailuau is a great way to spend your evening under the Hawaiian sky. They have one of the best ocean view for luaus on Oahu and feature many cultural activities, a buffet, and of course a show featuring different dances from the Polynesian Islands.
