The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe Getaway

Ritz Carlton Lake TahoeThere is something about a stay at The Ritz Carlton that is always a bit magical. Add a coating of snow and a cozy fireplace and you’ll never want to leave. Their Lake Tahoe location is truly a vacation destination in itself. Perched upon a ski hill there are plenty of experiences right at your doorstep. Adventure and luxury are two of our favorite things. They don’t always mix, but The Ritz somehow always delivers.

This winter had a record breaking amount of snow fall in Tahoe. We left South Bay in early morning and after some road closures due to snow, we finally made it to our destination! The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe is on Northstar‘s ski slope, so you’ll literally drive underneath ski lifts and past their lodge to there.

In the lobby we were welcomed to help ourselves to hot cider which sure hit the spot. We made our way up to our 5th floor room to find views of snow covered trees and an in room fireplace. After settling in we meandered the property and grabbed some drinks in their magnificent “living room”. This giant circular room has huge windows with mountainside views and at the core are a series of fireplaces that keep the room nice and toasty.

The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe has it’s own gondola that takes guests to and from the Northstar Village and back up to the resort. It makes getting to and from the village super convenient and the ride itself is beautiful. We took the 8 minute ride down and ventured to Tavern 6330′ for dinner. The Village is magical at night and even has an ice skating rink for the young and young at heart to have some fun. We love the lounge area and outdoor bars, great for grabbing a drink after a long day on the slopes.

During the daytime, the activity choices are really endless. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, spa time, or just relaxing with a nice book are all options. For downhill skiiers and snowboarders, the slope is literally outside the resort doors. This is the definition of ski-in, ski-out! Being halfway up the hill, you won’t have to deal with morning crowds at the bottom of the hill, which is awesome. Northstar is great for all ages and ability levels, we had a great time cruising the mountain with a ski instructor. At 2pm daily, Northstar has a tost to celebrate the mountains and gorgeous Lake Tahoe. Join for a festive time and complimentary champagne (for the first 150 guests).  If you’re looking for something more grounded and horizontal, you can try cross country skiing or snowshoeing. They have miles of trails for all ability levels with stunning views!

If you are hungry before or after your day of adventure, you aren’t short of options at The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe. Cafe Blue is a quick and easy option for coffee and a sandwich or pastry. Be sure to check out the Backyard BBQ for a delicious and filling lunch. They smoke their own meat and serve it naked! Choose from one of 3 sauces to pour or dip your meats into to get just the flavor you want. Their signature restaurant, The Manzanita is all about fresh, seasonal ingredients and is the place to go for a more luxurious sit down meal. Don’t forget about room service either! Food is available 24-7, we loved this option for breakfast before our day out skiing and snowboarding.

A couple of our favorite treats at The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe were Marshmology and the Aprés Ski Experience. Every night at their outdoor fire pit a “Marshmologist” comes with a loaded cart of marshmallow goodies. Enjoy creating complimentary s’mores featuring house-made marshmallows…yum! If you are more of a champagne person than a sweets person, you will appreciate their afternoon (Fri-Sun) Aprés Ski Experience. Moët & Chandon Ice Impérial and a raw bar of chef favorites, including chilled shrimp cocktail, oysters on the half shell, and ceviche will absolutely hit the spot.

Thank you to Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe for a wonderfully memorable stay with just the right mix of luxury and adventure. We can’t wait to return for a visit!
